I chose this capability because I believe respect is something we all want, in our jobs, with friends, family and our everyday interactions with people. Respect is more than just a word but to understand that the other person is not you. Growing up I believed respect needed to be earned, however, over the years I have matured and grown into the person I am today. Working in the healthcare system as a Registered Nurse, I have changed my belief about respect I believe respect should be given to everyone regardless if I think they have deserved it. I must admit, I can be quick to judge sometimes, but I feel as though knowing I have these flaws is something I am willing to challenge myself to strive for better. Penelopes test was to string Odysseus bow and then shoot an arrow through the eye of twelve ax handles. Penelope knew that only Odysseus could accomplish this task. By doing this, she avoided having to marry one of the suitors. Staying loyal to Odysseus brought about positive consequences to Penelope. She was reunited with her beloved husband Odysseus. Kinos wife Juana stayed by her husband through his time of distress. Although it was her belief that the pearl was an omen of evil, she loyally stayed at her husbands side. Juana remained loyal to Kino even after he had savagely beaten her. She knew that she had brought it upon herself and it was her place to accept the beating. Also, Juana vowed not to leave her husbands side when he decided to flee from the town after murdering one of the townspeople. She made the treacherous journey with her husband across a desert trying to outrun the men that pursued them. Negative consequences were the outcome of Juanas loyalty to Kino. Her loyalty caused her to lose all that was common and dear to her, including her only child. Loyalty to another person or to a cause may be an admirable trait, but it can lead to either positive or negative consequences. Penelope refused to remarry while Odysseus was on his long absence, and Juana never left Kinos side. Over one hundred million children are not in school, with ninety seven percent of these being in developing countries. One in every five adults globally is illiterate, which are taggering fgures given the widespread opportunities to learn available today. Other areas that should be considered in the development of corporate social responsibility programs are education, health, nutrition and employment. Social responsibility investment combines investors financial goals with their obligation and dedication to factors that ensure the well being of society such as environmental friendly practices, economic growth and ustice in society (Anderson 9). These elements are not only aspects of corporate social responsibility, but also a show of the ethical standards of a company. It is unethical for some individuals to own so much and earn so much, at the expense of other suffering members of society. It is also unethical for companies to engage in environmentally degrading practices that result in illnesses and loss of life. The first number is the per person limit and second is per accident. The property damage is the second number and indicates how much the company will pay to fix the other persons car or property. In this case $5,000. This is not a lot of coverage. If I was to hit a pedestrian in the crosswalk this coverage could run out in a hurry and I would be held liable for anything the insurance didnt cover. Many people with equity in their homes or with other assets will opt for greater coverage such as 100/300/50 as shown below. The second is medical payments. Medical payments pay a flat amount per person for anyone injured in your car regardless of fault. They range from between $500 to $5,000. This amount is not meant to absorb the cost of an injury, but to offset immediate out of pocket expenses such as health insurance deductibles. The third is uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. This protects you and your passenger in the event you are hit by a driver with no insurance or not enough insurance. The fourth is comprehensive and collision covers damage to your car. Collision pays to fix your car in the event it is damaged in an accident that is your fault. Comprehensive pays in the event of fire, theft, and vandalism or anything collision does not. Money and Mr. Riff Essay Money and Mr. Riff Essay Defense Witnesses MATILDA SLICK As I was following the process of the arrest warrant for Ronald Riff, the day after the alleged burglary on 3 September 2013, I was told by a woman by the name of Matilda Slick, further details of the suspects whereabouts at the time of the burglary. Mrs. Slick is the mother of Mr. Riff’s girlfriend, Sally Slick. Mrs. Slick proceeded to tell me about the night of the burglary. She said that Mr. Riff had picked up Sally for a movie, and stated her dislike towards Sally and Ronald Riff being together. She then told me Sally had come home before 11:00 alone, and when asked where Mr. Riff was, Mrs. Slick’s daughter said, â€Å"Ronald’s still at Red’s so he couldn’t very well come in and say hello.† Mrs. Slick proceeded to tell me Ronald called before 12:00 late that night, but was not specific of the exact time of the call being before or after 12:00. She recalled Mr. Riff saying, â€Å"Just tell Sally I won big. Over $900.† Mrs. Slick als o recalled the words being spoken in the background, â€Å"Don’t try to pass off that lousy Canadian money around here.† After the phone call, Mrs. Slick relayed the message from Mr. Riff to Sally. Upon hearing the details of the burglary and what had happened with the burglary at Speedy Marquette’s happening after 12:00 A.M., Mrs. Slick then contacted me with this information. RED CHIPS On, 3 September 2013, I started to question Red Chips on any known details of the burglary, and the exact times and whereabouts of Ronald Riff, on the night of the burglary, 2 September 2013. Mr. Chips had opened Red’s Pleasure Palace as soon as Midtown legalized gambling, and Mr. Chips told me that Ronald Riff was a regular and had been coming in at least once every week. Mr. Chips stated that at 8:00 P.M. Mr. Riff had come in with Sally Slick, his girlfriend, where they both sat at table one consisting of: Ace Harte and Jacques Orbedder who had started playing around 7:30 P.M. Mr. Chips told me at approximately 10:30 that night, there was an argument that broke out within table one. Ronald then talked to Sally, who at that time left Red’s Pleasure Palace. Mr. Chips then said 10 or 15 minutes later Vibes Blare came in, watched the game, Ronald Riff then pulled Vibes Blare aside and gave him some money. That is when Mr. Chips realized Mr. Riff had at least $200 dollars. At midnight Mr. Chips stated another argument broke out, because Jacques Orbedder started to play with Canadian money. Ace Harte then asked Mr. Chips what the Danadian dollar was worth, in which Mr. Chips told them 97 cents, also realizing that Ronald Riff was not on the pay phone but on the pay phone. Mr. Chips said when the game broke up around midnight, Ronald had come up to his office and asked if he could borrow a money bag he could borrow, and Mr. Chips directed him to old money bags under the service bar. I then asked him what kind of money bag had been taken, whether it was from Midtown State Bank, but he said he doubted one from Midtown State Bank was taken. He then stated that, the Palace banked at National City Bank in the new shopping center. RONALD RIFF On the 3rd of Septeber 2013, I came into Ronald Riff’s home to question him on the burglary at Speedy Marquette’s, Marquette Market. When I asked Ronald Riff where he had been the night before, Ronald said he first picked Sally Slick up for a movie and then a sandwich at Mickey’s Diner. Ronald said, having fifty dollars left, he then proceeded to Red’s Pleasure Palace with Sally, so he could win money to pay back Vibes Blare $50.00 and buy a new guitar or he would be fired from their band, â€Å"Deep water Reunion Band.† Ronald said they had arrived at Red’s Pleasure Palace at about 8:00 P.M.

The first recorded case of capital punishment in the United States was in 1608 on a Mexican immigrant who was accused of spying for the Spanish government (Goldberg, 1974). Since this initial incident, the history of capital punishment in the USA has been mixed throughout various states and areas. It is reported in the Espy files that over 15,000 people have been executed in the United States (or colonies before the formation of the States) since 1608 (Henderson, 2000). This suggests that the punishment is rare and, as previously mentioned, only considered in serious breaches of law. One incident stands out among the rest if only because of the nature – a mass execution of 38 people in Dakota who were convicted of rape and murder during the Dakota war of 1862 (Kronenwetter, 2001). Again, this incident stands out due to its rarity – examples of mass capital punishment are even rarer than their singular counterparts. The 20th century brought with it a more compassionate culture and thus a different attitude towards capital punishment. It is proudly announced by citizens of Michigan that the state was the first English-speaking government in the world to ban all capital punishment for crimes other than treason (Henderson, 2000). Michigan itself can also be proud of the fact that it has not carried out a capital punishment since it joined the Union. It has now been joined by 14 other states that explicitly ban the use of capital punishment, although 35 states still currently have a law sanctioning the penalty (Banner, 2002). Several other countries now ban the death penalty, including every member state of the European Union and many South American countries including Venezuela. Capital Punishment in the United States Taking into account the potted history of capital punishment, it is no surprise that it causes such a debate, particularly in the United States. The United States is often championed as being a free and liberal nation, the jewel in the crown of the Western world, but still carries out capital punishment year after year with a spike in the early 2000s to pre-1950s levels of execution (Banner, 2002). Over 40 death penalties were acted upon in the year 2010 in the United States. The US government did, however, have a brief period in the 1970s where capital punishment was completely banned, and it was expected that many states would keep this ban. She started join the sport and became an athlete. After finished school, she learned about silat. She also entered MARA Institution for two years to learning about the handicrafts. If she has a free time, she will teach children to read Quran. When she was 22 years old, she got married with my father, Kamaruzaman Ismail. And now, after 32 years married, she has 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls. She never tired to take care of her family. Although she only a housewife, she successfully teach their children until all of them success in their life. I hope I can be like her, be a strong person, an honest person and caring about family. Even though my mother finished her school at form three, I still proud of her. I love my mom. The alternatives to liquid fuels are compressed gases and electric power, however, both are viewed as inferior by the automotive industry. The gases are inferior in terms of energy content per unit volume. Electric power may be stored on board a vehicle in a battery or (for a short time) in capacitors. However, batteries are regarded within the automotive industry as substandard compared to liquid fuels in terms of energy stored by unit weight and volume. Furthermore their cost is high, and the manufacture of some battery types involves large quantities of scarce or environmentally-threatening materials including cadmium, lead, lithium, nickel, sodium, sulphur and zinc. According to the already mentioned just-auto report entitled The future of road vehicle fuels – forecasts to 2020 (January 2008), the International Energy Agency’s World Energy Outlook 2007 found that around 230m barrels of oil equivalent are required to meet global demand each day. Of this total, liquids account for the largest share of the 230m barrels (37%) followed by coal (23%) and natural gas (21%), leaving a 19% contribution from nuclear and sustainable sources. Of the liquids, however, transport use accounts for more than half (51%), with the remainder going to industry (32%), residential and commercial (11%) and power generation (6%). The residential and commercial share is mainly accounted for by oil-fired central heating, and the small power generation share by gas turbines running to meet peak loads. It follows that the transport sector share of the world energy market is just over half of 37%, in other words some 19% or just under one-fifth of the total. It should also be borne in mind that the transport sector is itself divided into light-duty vehicles (privately-owned passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles), heavy-duty vehicles, and other transport applications (aircraft, ships and diesel railway engines). The light-duty and heavy-duty sub-sectors take about 40% each, and the other applications some 20%. The search for improved efficiency in the transport sector must therefore embrace both light-duty and heavy-duty road vehicles.

Ethical Issues in Business Essay

The issue of ethical behavior is one of the top challenges facing organizations today. A good definition of ethics includes the thought of doing what is morally acceptable or what is â€Å"good† and â€Å"right† as opposed to doing what is â€Å"bad† or â€Å"wrong† (Sims, 1992). But why are these issues a concern for organizations? What can they do to promote ethical behavior from their employees? Organizations should be concerned with ethical behavior for many reasons. Even though ethical decisions are not always black and white, ethical behavior is important to the organization because ethical behavior enhances the corporate reputation, helps attract talented employees, and enhances the corporate image. First, there is evidence that profitability is enhanced by a reputation for honesty and corporate citizenship (Kinicki, Kreitner, 2009). After all, the number one reason for business is to make a profit, thus returning value to its share holders. Consumers are more likely to buy goods or services from a reputable company then one with a reputation for unethical behavior. The Ford Company in the 1970’s was a good example of lost sales due to an unethical decision. When the Ford Pinto was hit in the rear, the gas tank would often explode. Ford was slow to acknowledge the problem. By the time Ford admitted that they had a flawed design, many consumers had stopped buying Fords. Another reason organizations should be concerned with ethical behavior is its ability to attract talented employees. In a recent survey eighty three percent of those polled rated a company’s record as â€Å"very important† when deciding to accept a job offer (Kinicki, Kreitner, 2009). Hiring and keeping innovative, creative and talented employees is essential for businesses as they attempt to compete in this global economy. Without talented people, organizations will be at a disadvantage when it comes to competing for future business. Being good corporate citizens is another reason that organizations should be concerned with ethical behavior. Businesses have many stakeholders that rely on them. These include shareholders, current and former employees, customers, suppliers and communities where facilities are located (Kinicki, Kreitner, 2009). Businesses are more than just profit centers today. When making decisions, businesses must consider the social, political, and environmental effects as well as the profitability aspect. The challenge to be a good corporate citizen has put the emphasis on being an ethical company, with every decision made. Ethics is an important organizational issue, but ethics starts with the individual. We make decisions based on a combination of our personality characteristics, values and moral principles (Kinicki, Kreitner, 2009). Each of us â€Å"learns† what is right or wrong as we grow up. Our moral compass is set by what we learn from parents, teachers, grandparents, siblings and society. We take our observations and experiences and use them to form our opinion as to what right and wrong means. We then use our moral compass to make decisions as we become employees and managers of business. Organizations should do everything necessary to address ethical issues up front. If they are unsuccessful in eliminating issues before they happen, organizations should be forthright in communicating any possible wrongdoing. Consider an example shared recently in the Wall Street Journal. Defense contractor DynCorp International Inc. recently admitted that it may have violated Foreign Corrupt Practices when it tried to speed up the issuances of visas and licensing related to work for the U. S. government overseas† (Cole, 2009, p. B. 4). This possible violation, if legitimate, was committed by sub-contractors working for DynCorp. By proactively disclosing possible wrongful behavior, DynCorp is sending a message that it will not tolerate unethical behavior by its employees or sub-contractors. But organizations can do more than address possible issues after they occur. They can impact ethical behavior in a positive manner through various means. By utilizing different measures organizational culture can be affected in a positive way. Ethical behavior starts at the top (Sims, 1992). The ethical tone of an organization is set with its top managers. How top management acts when faced with an ethical dilemma, strongly effects how the rest of the organization will react when they face questionable issues. By walking the walk and talking the talk, organizational leaders can show their subordinates what they expect in the area of ethics. Actions and words by top executives will set the tone for the entire organization. Another way an organization can positively affect ethical behavior is through a corporate code of ethics. This code of ethics should be shared with all employees throughout the organization. The company that I work for emails the code of ethics to all employees annually. A high ranking executive will send the code out for all to read. Each employee then is required to electronically sign indicating that he or she understands the code. This annual process sends the message that unethical behavior will not be tolerated. Organizations have much to do to be a productive, profitable entity in today’s global economy. Building an organizational culture that supports ethical decision making through active leadership, positive community actions, and employee involvement will go a long way toward meeting business goals. With a strong culture in place, organizations will be seen in a positive light by their customers, future and current employees, and by the communities where they do business. Being a good corporate citizenship will lead to a well liked, responsible, financially supported organization that can be competitive in the twenty first century.

This is probably because at the time that it was written it had themes of forbidden love a theme that was never touched upon before Shakespeare. The story is about two young people who are from feuding families who at one families masquerade ball fall in love at first sight, and even when one parent tells Juliet to marry someone else she refuses and would rather be disowned than marry some one else. To be able to be with Romeo she takes a poison that would make her appear dead. When Romeo hears of her ‘death’ he is so distraught and depressed that he kills himself at the side of her death bed. When she realises what he has done he takes Romeo’s blade and impales herself on and they lie together until they are found by her father. Due to their death the two families end the feud. The reason that the relationship between Romeo and Juliet is so important to the plot of the play is because their love was forbidden yet destined to be. It is also very important because this is viewed as one of the first stories that uses the metaphor of opposites attracting to describe the love between the two central characters. Also the story through out uses a huge variety of dramatic irony to show what will happen. The central scene that I am looking at is Act 1: Scene 5 this in the film is ball scene. I will also use other scenes to show the way Romeo and Juliet react towards each other. Firstly, in the opening scene you see the coat of arms of the two families; the Montague’s and the Capulet’s, the colours of the coats are significant to the central scene. The Montague’s coat of arms has a yellow colour on it and the Capulet’s has a blue colour on it. Later on in the film when you see Romeo and Juliet first lay eyes on one another, they see each other through a fish tank; this tank is filled with fish that are luminous blue and yellow. The use of the fish have several connotations one of them is that fish are seen as very relaxing animals and the way they move is very gracious, since in the seen the fish seem to be the same species but different colours this could be seen that the two families are the same but because of their last names are forever going to be separated from each other. Also the fish show no signs of aggression to each other and I believe that this is a metaphor for Romeo and Juliet, this is because in the film version we see Romeo and Juliet have their heads submerged into water (separately), and then later on in Act 2: scene 2 you see them when they kiss start spinning around in the pool. This is exactly like the fish because they are both yellow and blue and they are at peace with each other in the water just like the fish. Secondly, in the literal version when Romeo and Juliet are leading up to the kiss, they use lots of religious metaphors and similes to show how much they feel for each other, and how much they long to be with each other. My first example is that Romeo calls himself the pilgrim and the palmer and he calls Juliet a saint and an angel. This shows that he only feels as though he is a loyal follower/ servant to her, this is also something that Romeo does when he thinks he has found love and this is shown by the quote ‘tis no less, I tell ye, for the bawdy hand of the dial is now upon the prick of the noon’ this is said by Mercutio to show that once Romeo falls in love too easily and gives away his control. Also in the film there are numerous shots of Verona and the key point in most of these scenes is the titanic statue of St. Mary. I believe this to be a link to Juliet. I believe this because Juliet is described as beautiful, pure and sinless these are the same things that you would associate with St. Mary because she was said to be a virgin when she gave birth, and Juliet says she wants Romeo to be the first man she lies with. Also in the scene before the ball when Juliet’s mother is telling her about the arranged marriage to Paris it is obvious that she is wearing no make up and still appears to be beautiful. Also throughout the text she is described as saintly and angelic. Finally in the Catholic religion which both Romeo and Juliet are; when they go on a pilgrimage to the holy lands, they would be blessed and then they would touch the palms of a saint, the main one is usually St. Mary. In many strong Catholics lives this is viewed as one of the most enlightening and pure moments of their life. So when Romeo touches the palm of Juliet after calling her a saint this can be interpreted to be the most pure and enlightening moments in his life showing his trust and unconditional love for Juliet. Moreover, in the film Romeo wears armour to represent his insecurities and true thoughts and feelings being hidden from sight and in the literal version he wears a mask because it is a way to hide who he really is. These two things support the idea that Romeo is truly insecure but puts forth a barrier to stop people getting in. In the film he lets his armour slip when he is with Mercutio and Benvolio, because these two people make him feel safe. Also in the film Juliet wears no makeup and is very open and does not have anything to hide. This is also shown by the way she dressed as an angel because angels are seen as beautiful and pure and open. This is in direct contrast because a knight is a person with connotations of wars and battles and angels have connotations of purity and beauty. Also you can see the difference between Juliet and her family by what they wear to the costume ball. I know this because Juliet wears a full length white dress with no eye catching detail but, Tybalt who we already know by Act 1: Scene 5 is quite hot headed and is willing to jump in head first without thinking of the consequences dresses as a devil this is the complete opposite to Juliet. Her mother dresses as Cleopatra the idea that Mrs. Capulet wears this costume shows that she is quite promiscuous this is also shown by the way that she intimately kisses Tybalt; her own nephew.. And mr. Capulet dresses as a roman emperor this shows he views himself as a very powerful man. However the style of the costume looks like Julius Caesar, who was a very power mad man and when he felt like he had been betrayed would do anything to get revenge this has an essence of dramatic irony because later on he threatens to disown Juliet because she does not want to marry Paris. Tybalt, Mrs. Capulet and Capulet were very glittery costumes that have colours that represent power (purple) that represent wealth (gold) and that represent danger (red).
